about

There are 3 stochastically interwoven audio threads that comprise this sound clip.

The first thread is the human derived – this is constructed humanity, informed by our biological actuality. This thread is constructed from heavily modified and overlaid samples of John Zorn’s Kristallnacht, Diamanda Galas’ Plague Mass, and one or two similarly unmitigated musical tracks, passed en masse through a granular synthesizer and slowed down, forming a low-pitched, crunched-up, deterritorialised matrix of what an anthropocentric world view is capable of, even in its guarded moments.

The second thread comprises software-mediated, cross-modulated samples of digital and other quantised electronic hardware processes (a sonified image, nerve-net pulse trains, gross clipping) suggesting a type of call to and from a post-human, post-Anthropocene condition; a conceptual home beyond a knowable future.

The last thread is a metafugally composed thread of the former two threads, eroded, formed, and stretched to a somewhat contrived aesthetic wash of sounds – reminiscent of commonly encountered renditions of “space sounds,” sounds obtained from sonified data of celestial objects and processes – which in this case has been slowed down and stretched to a point of almost being static. It’s a self-limited attempt at reterritorialising, where organisation continuously vacillates between the two poles of the mediated – which includes the symbolic, and human control – and unmediatable chance.
